23.02.2005 Shocking…

I just checked on iStock photo… the bog roll photo is now up to 8 downloads. Fucking shocking. 2 more downloads and the loo roll will be on fire. (classed as a “hot” download).

17.02.2005 OoooArrrr!

While having a random browse I came across the Captain Morgan Meme over at mojombo. Since it's quite a fun one and I haven't posted in a while I thought that I'd give it a shot. This meme proposes that each meme-sheep post a decent photo (none of that weird half-in-darkness artsy crap) of just yourself on your weblog. That?s pretty boring you might say?right 0! But my meme?s got more pizazz than that. My meme also requires you to make your photo black and white, and to paint a red pirate mustachio upon your visage! Think, ?The Captain Was Here?.

Anyway… here's mine.captain morgan

If you guys don't follow suit and take part in this meme I'll cut ya! ya hear me? ARRRR!

15.02.2005 Internet Explorer On The Mend?

For the none geeky web developer types among you, the following post will probably bore the living crap out of you but I'm going to talk about it none the less. According to this post the official Internet Explorer blog, the developer guys that make IE are working on a new updated version of IE to be released this summer. The official press release says that they'll be working mostly on security issues but I personally think that although they're keeping tight lipped about it for now, they'll make some major overhauls to the rendering engine behind the browser (trident).

I think the guys at IE know only too well that this is their last chance to win people back. I don't think that they can pull back many of the people that have switched to Firefox, but I do think that with good support for XHTML, proper CSS support and full support for PNG alpha transparancy as well as the security improovements they've proposed they might stop the rest of the IE users from leaving.

Still… even if IE does get updated it's not the end of the problems for web designers. According to the latest stats from thecounter.com 8% of people are still using 5.x versions of IE and IE6 has been available for at least 3 years now. So if 8% of people are still using 5 now, 3 years down the line us web designers are still going to be having to deal with the backlog of shit that Microsoft have thrown at us with previous browser for some time to come.

Still… at least we know that in time we're going to have less shit to deal with and at in this case… less is definatly better aint it?

09.02.2005 Blog Different…

Todays entry comes to you direct from my brand new Mac Mini! Yup… the little bleeder arrived today and I have to say…. I'm very impressed. The first thing that strikes you about the mac mini, in fact… about any product is the quality of the packaging. I don't really know how to describe it… everything is just plain nice. From the carefully molded polystyrne padding to the over enthusastic use of transparent plastic stuff, you just know that when you open your gear, it's going to be in perfect condition. And you know what… once I'd gotten through the packaging it all WAS in perfect condition.

What can I say about the Mac mini? It was just gorgous… How could something so small command more power than my main PC? Anyway… I plugged it all in (except for the keyboard and mouse but we'll come to that in a minute) and turned it on. The Mac made that spooky “dong” noise that Macs make when they turn on and then took over and did damn near everything for me!

Wireless keyboard and mouse? they paired up in a matter of seconds with hardly any input from myself. I went through a quick registration process then, noticing that it was plugged into a network OSX set itself up on the network, worked out the settings to connect to the internet and that was that. I've heard this term used about Mac's so many times before but it's true.

It just works.

OSX is a delight to work with compared to Windows XP. I really cant think of anything bad to say! Well… ok there is one minor problem and it only just seems to have come to light in the last couple of seconds, but this keyboard makes my fingers hurt! I don't know if it's because I'm used to the slightly different angle of the keyboard I use for my PC's (I have the same one at work and at home) or just that I've done too much typing today and worn my fingers out, but this keyboard is definatly making my pinkies sore.

I'll continue to use the mac keyboard over the next couple of weeks and I'll let you know how it goes. Oh almost forgot to mention… WHY? for the love of god WHY is it that on macs the quotemark and @ symbol keys are the wrong way around? This is going to take weeks to get used to! In fact… as long as I continue to use PC's on a regular basis, I don't know if I'll ever get used to it!

Oh yeah… one last thing. MaxOSX is FAST… seriously fucking fast! I can't quite believe how fucking fast this computer is. How can it be so fast but so small? It's like some sort of paradox that my brain can't comprehend!

08.02.2005 I'm so childish…

While randomly browsing Florida with the new Google Maps service I came across this street just off international drive called *snicker* Gaylord Way! I'm sorry… but this bought out the child in me. He he he… :-) Gaylord Way

I'll shut up now.

07.02.2005 It's all in the presentation!

Last week I attended my mums marrige to her partner and just for the fun of it took along my digital camera. I'm really glad that I did, because the photos that the official photographer took were absolute pants! (I must admit tho… I did have an advantage since my camera was considerably better than his!) ;o) Anyways… here's a few pics I took during the day:

This one is my sister, taken outside the registry office… I'm quite impressed with how it came out, and I love how her hair got caught by the wind just as the shutter closed, leaving it looking slightly blurred and windswept.

This is the famous “confetti” pose… you get one of these in most sets of wedding photo's dontcha?

confetti

Of course… what wedding album is complete without… the first dance?

first dance

Here's some dancing at the reception afterwards, the dude at the decks is none other than the world famous DJ Rich.

Dance

Speaking of Rich… here's a pic of him posing for the camera (I told you that pic would come n haunt you didn't I?) ;o)

And here's a close up of his *ahem* equipment:

Now for some self embarrassment. This is me. As you can tell… I don't take kindly to being photographed. I much prefer to be behind the lens.

me!

And an arty farty shot of the champagne at the reception.

That's your lot! I'm off to bed now.

03.02.2005 A Bit On The Quiet Front…

Hey guys… I know I've been a bit lame on the blogging front for the last week or so and I'm really sorry but I'm just in it up to my eyeballs at the moment (it being mountains of work). Everything is hectic… Work at work, work at home and my personal life. It's so hectic, that prior to last night I hadn't been to bed before 1:30am in over two weeks. Last night though, I hit the wall and decided enough was enough. I wasn't doing ANY work AT ALL.

I went to bed nice and early and I felt shit loads better for it. I think I might do the same tonight as well and then it'll probably be back to the grindstone friday night.

Sometimes… I wish I'd never started my own business. Don't believe what people tell you about it being easy. It's not. It's fucking tough.
