Todays entry comes to you direct from my brand new Mac Mini! Yup… the little bleeder arrived today and I have to say…. I'm very impressed. The first thing that strikes you about the mac mini, in fact… about any product is the quality of the packaging. I don't really know how to describe it… everything is just plain nice. From the carefully molded polystyrne padding to the over enthusastic use of transparent plastic stuff, you just know that when you open your gear, it's going to be in perfect condition. And you know what… once I'd gotten through the packaging it all WAS in perfect condition.

What can I say about the Mac mini? It was just gorgous… How could something so small command more power than my main PC? Anyway… I plugged it all in (except for the keyboard and mouse but we'll come to that in a minute) and turned it on. The Mac made that spooky “dong” noise that Macs make when they turn on and then took over and did damn near everything for me!

Wireless keyboard and mouse? they paired up in a matter of seconds with hardly any input from myself. I went through a quick registration process then, noticing that it was plugged into a network OSX set itself up on the network, worked out the settings to connect to the internet and that was that. I've heard this term used about Mac's so many times before but it's true.

It just works.

OSX is a delight to work with compared to Windows XP. I really cant think of anything bad to say! Well… ok there is one minor problem and it only just seems to have come to light in the last couple of seconds, but this keyboard makes my fingers hurt! I don't know if it's because I'm used to the slightly different angle of the keyboard I use for my PC's (I have the same one at work and at home) or just that I've done too much typing today and worn my fingers out, but this keyboard is definatly making my pinkies sore.

I'll continue to use the mac keyboard over the next couple of weeks and I'll let you know how it goes. Oh almost forgot to mention… WHY? for the love of god WHY is it that on macs the quotemark and @ symbol keys are the wrong way around? This is going to take weeks to get used to! In fact… as long as I continue to use PC's on a regular basis, I don't know if I'll ever get used to it!

Oh yeah… one last thing. MaxOSX is FAST… seriously fucking fast! I can't quite believe how fucking fast this computer is. How can it be so fast but so small? It's like some sort of paradox that my brain can't comprehend!
