15.02.2005 Internet Explorer On The Mend?
For the none geeky web developer types among you, the following post will probably bore the living crap out of you but I'm going to talk about it none the less. According to this post the official Internet Explorer blog, the developer guys that make IE are working on a new updated version of IE to be released this summer. The official press release says that they'll be working mostly on security issues but I personally think that although they're keeping tight lipped about it for now, they'll make some major overhauls to the rendering engine behind the browser (trident).
I think the guys at IE know only too well that this is their last chance to win people back. I don't think that they can pull back many of the people that have switched to Firefox, but I do think that with good support for XHTML, proper CSS support and full support for PNG alpha transparancy as well as the security improovements they've proposed they might stop the rest of the IE users from leaving.
Still… even if IE does get updated it's not the end of the problems for web designers. According to the latest stats from thecounter.com 8% of people are still using 5.x versions of IE and IE6 has been available for at least 3 years now. So if 8% of people are still using 5 now, 3 years down the line us web designers are still going to be having to deal with the backlog of shit that Microsoft have thrown at us with previous browser for some time to come.
Still… at least we know that in time we're going to have less shit to deal with and at in this case… less is definatly better aint it?
