15.12.2006 My Personal Top Ten Coolest TV/Film Cars

Just recently, I’ve noticed a few top ten lists of the best cars from movies on the internet, and even witnessed a top 100 on TV a few weeks back. Usually I like quite a few of the vehicles that show up, but rarely agree with the whole list, which is why I’ve decided to create my very own list of the top ten coolest TV/movie cars.

To make it into this list, the vehicle in question can’t just have featured in a movie. It has to have something about it that makes it cool – a certain je ne sai quais, whether it’s a cool paint job or the ability to travel through time. These are my personal top ten cool movie cars (in reverse order). Enjoy!

10. Optimus Prime – The Transformers

optimusprime.jpg

While technically not a car, I couldn’t not include Optimus prime in my coolest cars list… I mean, it’s a freaking truck that turns into a robot AND it can fly? Seriously, if that doesn’t qualify a vehicle as cool… what does? Oh yeah, and the new version of Optimus Prime which is due to appear in the new movie has flames on it and is in my opinion, far cooler than the old one. :D

09. Dodge Charger / General Lee – The Dukes of Hazzard

generallee

It jumps and flips and it’s bright orange! Plus the doors are welded shut meaning you have to jump in through the window. Seriously cool.

08. Lamborghini Countach – Cannonball Run II

LamborghiniCountach

Very few people that I’ve spoken to remember this, but at the start of Cannonball Run II the white Lambo changes colour after a quick spray down with water. Tell me you don’t want a colour changing car… go on. I dare ya! (video on youtube! – the colour change part is around 6 minutes in)

07. GMC van – The A Team

ateamvan

It’s big and black and transports the A-Team from one mission to the next. That makes it cool in it’s own right, but then they went and stuck a bright red spoiler on the back and red rims under the arches, that’s when this car became really cool.

06. Aston Martin Vanquish – Die Another Day

astonmartinvanquish

Ignoring the fact that it’s a top of the range Aston Martin Vanquish, what makes this car cool is a combination of bonnet mounted auto targetting shot guns, grill mounted rocket launchers and the ever popular ejector seat. Oh yeah… and it goes invisible at the touch of a switch. Seriously, what more could a secret agent want in a car?

05. Dodge Charger – The Fast and the Furious

dodgecharger

Pure, unbridled power. That’s what makes this car cool. How many cars do you know that can pull wheelies from a standing start? Shame it got trashed at the end of the movie, but at least it went out in style!

04. DeLorean / Time Machine – Back to the Future Trilogy

delorean

The car that dared to be different! Forget the flux capacitor and Mr Fusion power generator – this car had gull wing doors and unpainted stainless steel bodywork, oh yeah, and following a hover conversion it could fly as well!

03. Batmobile – (aka the Keaton) Batman/Batman Returns

batmobile

Not the one from the TV series, or the crappy tank like thing from Batman Begins – this is the jet turbine driven monster with machine guns, kick ass bullet proof armour plating and the ability to slim itself down to a road-going missile at the flick of a button. Oh yeah… and it was matt black from top to bottom. Sweet!

02. Pontiac Trans-Am / KITT – Knight Rider

kitt

Features including self drive, turbo boost, pursuit mode, a really handy built in AI system and a top speed of over 300mph! Oh yeah and a rather cool pulsing red light in the front bumper (so cool in fact, that I used to have a green version in the front bumper of my Peugeot 206!).

01. Shelby Mustang GT 500 / Eleanor – Gone in 60 Seconds

Ford Shelby Mustang gt 500

For me… this is the coolest movie car ever purely on looks alone. This car screams raw power and looks the dogs bollocks to boot. More than any other car in the world, this car calls out to me as an object of beauty and would be the one car I would love to own above all of the others in this list (of course… mine would have to be black!).

I totally agree with your number 1 choice. I LOVE that car. The movie was pretty decent as well. I’ve liked Vinnie Jones since Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels, Nicolas Cage I could do without.

What about bumble bee from Transformers? You are right, there are a lot of great vehicles for movies. You should check out filmcrave.com to create other kinds of lists etc as they rate to movies. It is similar to facebook, but exclusive to movies. It is definitely worth a look as it looks like you like to make lists.

When it comes to the Top Ten movie vehicles, you’ve got to include Steve McQueen’s ‘68 Mustang GT. What a coolcar and what a cool chase sequence in the movie – Bullitt.

I’m sorry, but I can’t agree with leaving Max’s modified ‘71 Falcon from Mad Max and Road Warrior. I’d much rather have it than a GT500. It also screams “raw power” on looks alone.

Prime? its an American truck so it looks like a shed…no way!

The Dodge Charger – The Fast and the Furious looks like a piece of junk!

and the Shelby Mustang GT 500 / Eleanor – Gone in 60 Seconds oh come on…

The Aston Martin Vanquish – Die Another Day looks and is better than the Shelby and the Charger…

All the rest YEAH total kick ass.

Great car selection!! Personally, I would have traded out the ‘Eleanor’ mustang for the green Mustand from the movie, “Bullit,” and gotten rid of the ‘Batmobile’ and traded its spot for the Trans Am from Smoky and the Bandit.

I think that instead of having the Gen. Lee, which is nothing more than a common charger you should have included the Munster Coach. Now that car is a genuine work of art.
