03.03.2008 When is an iPod not an iPod?
When it’s a FAKE iPod that’s when!
Recently my sister purchased an iPod Nano off ebay after failing to get one from local stores due to supply issues (every iPod retailer in her town has been out of stock for ages!). Unfortunately, the iPod broke after a day of arriving, never to work again. So she called me to find out what happens next – naturally, I said call Apple and they’ll sort it out for you.
So she called Apple, spoke to a lovely person in a foreign call center only to find out that the serial number was invalid and wouldn’t be covered under any warranty! So when I popped into see them today, she showed me the iPod (which I’ve kept for shits and giggles) and being the geek I am, could immediately tell it was counterfeit.
So here’s the challenge… take a look at the pictures below and tell me what the six give away signs are that this is a totally fake iPod Nano (apologies for the crap pictures – I took them in a rush with my iSight as I couldn’t be bothered to get the camera out!). Kudos and a BJ from Steve Jobs to the first person to correctly identify all six!

PS – Just kidding about the BJ, Steve the Great isn’t that way inclined!

The same thing happened to a friend’s brother although I think his is still working — when he contacted the seller and asked why he’d been sold a counterfeit they gave him the “we were out of stock of genuine iPods and it was too late to stop the auction” bullshit.

“out of stock of genuine iPods” ?
Why the hell were they stocking counterfeit iPods and advertising stock that they didn’t have? Blatant lies me thinks.
Haven’t had a response yet, but we’ll definitely follow this up with trading standards whether we get a response or not.

Just got the wife the Product (red) nano off apples site, was quite impressed with the delivery times, I had it in less than 2 working days AND it was engraved.
I am also impressed with them, after initially hating them as I thought they looked odd.
Can your sis not claim that she was miss sold the item and claim the money back from Paypal?
